About Magpie
Magpie is listed in our agent infra category and is aimed at builders. Free, open-source menu bar app and local gateway that lets any coding agent (Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, OpenCode and 60+ more) use any model provider or subscription, with failover when a quota runs out. Pricing, as the maker states it: Free and open source (MIT). Maturity: Active. We last checked the official link on 2026-10-19.
What is Magpie?
Magpie, from developer yetone, is a free, open-source app that lets every coding agent on your machine use any model. It runs one local gateway (127.0.0.1:3425) that speaks the OpenAI Chat, OpenAI Responses, Anthropic Messages and Gemini APIs and translates between them, including streaming, tool calls and reasoning, so Codex can run on DeepSeek or Claude Code on Kimi.
From a menu bar app, window, TUI, web UI or CLI you add providers once (API keys, local models via Ollama, or the Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini or Grok plans you are already signed in to) and pick a model per agent; Magpie edits only the relevant key in each agent's own config. Routing groups fail over to the next account or model when a quota runs out, and profiles switch every agent at once.
