What is AIOS?
AIOS, from the AGI Research group, is an 'AI agent operating system' that embeds a language model into the operating system layer. Its kernel manages what agents need, such as LLM access, scheduling, context switching, memory, storage and tools, while the separate Cerebrum SDK is used to build and run agents on top.
It offers a web UI and a terminal UI, and a computer-use variant extends the kernel with a VM controller and an MCP server so agents can operate a desktop safely. It is a research project with accompanying papers rather than a commercial product.
